The Growth of ATV's in Utah

Now that it's March and Winter is officially over (we wish), things quickly start turning to that time of year when thousands of Utah ATV riders are headed out to the hills. Over the years, it seems like more and more people are taking up ATV riding in Utah. On the popular weekends like Easter, Memorial Day, Labor Day, and the summer holidays, it seems like every other truck on the freeway is pulling a couple ATV's. Even on the non holiday weekends the traffic is packed with OHV's headed out to the hills. The popular destinations are jammed with ATV's and people wanting to get out and have a great time.

We decided to look into the growth of Utah ATV registrations and found some interesting data. According to http://tax.utah.gov/esu/motor/, in:

2006 there were 77,902 Utah ATV Registrations
2007 there were 89,286 Utah ATV Registrations
2008 there were 96,237 Utah ATV Registrations
And there are currently 96,125 ATV's with Registrations of expiration dates after 12/31/08

It's interesting that these numbers confirm the growth of ATV's in Utah. This website was also interesting in that it shows the Utah ATV dealerships and how many ATV/Motorcycle sales they had each month. It looks like Stephen Wade Powersports, Steadmans, Weller Recreation, and South Valley Motorsports round out the top for for Q4 2008.

With the fast growth of ATV's in Utah, it's important that we all do our part to protect the trails and riding areas. As the population of Utah ATV's increases, the likely hood of some of Utah's top ATV destinations getting closed down increases. We need to make sure that we tread lightly and are respectful to others out enjoying the outdoors.
