Trail Description
Located just South of the beautiful Wind River Mountain Range in Wyoming is the historic mining town of South Pass City. This is a great place for ATV riders looking for a scenic and historic tour of these old mining towns. Just down the road from South Pass is Atlantic City with its famous "Atlantic City Mercantile" restaurant.
This is a great area for a family to get out and explore the with hundreds of miles of graded and well traveled dirt roads. It's fun to take a tour of the two mining towns, then head out to the south and visit the famous "Oregon Trail" and the "Mormon Pioneer Trail". There are several historic sites in the area where the Mormon Pioneers, the Willie and Martin Handcart Companies, encountered major setbacks with snowstorms along the Sweetwater River. The area is well marked with the history of the towns and the areas the pioneers traveled.
It's also fun to head a few miles north to the Wind Rivers and explore the beautiful mountains. You'll find plenty of wildlife in the area including elk, deer, antelope, coyotes, etc. This is a great place to camp and explore for a weekend.
