Trail Description

This is a great trail. We rode this trail as a family, with my 8 year old boy, 11 year old girl, 14 year old boy and my wife and I all on our own machines and had a great time.

The day use map produced by the BLM is great with regards to direction on the trail and trail difficulty.

There are a few different access points to this trail, we used the trail head described above. From the trail head you leave the parking lot towards the toilet and follow the trail side markers, the main trail is marked with signs that have trail 1.

The first marked side trail that you come to leads you to a sink hole that is probably 100 feet wide and at least that deep. There is a broken down wooden ladder in the bottom of it. If you were to survive falling into the sink hole, it's unlikely that you would have a rope long enough to get you out.

After leaving the sink hole the trail joins back onto the main road and goes up on top of the mountain range. The side trail labeled 2 takes you to a great overlook on top of the mountain that provides a fantastic view of the desert valley to the west.

From where the #2 trail splits off, you can go back the way you came, or you can continue on the loop.

The sections of the trail that are marked black are steep and loose. We were successful in getting down one of the black sections, but only by having my younger two riders ride inches from machine so I could act as a safety net to keep them in check and to show them the exact path to take.

I WOULD NOT ADVISE SENDING AN INEXPERIENCED RIDER DOWN THE BLACK SECTION OF THIS TRAIL UNLESS YOU ARE COMFORTABLE IN YOUR ABILITY TO PREVENT THEM FROM WRECKING.

If you are doing this trail in the reverse order, if you don't have a 4 wheel drive machine, you will struggle getting up the black section of the trail. If you are an advance rider, THIS IS A GREAT RIDE.

Summary: This was a great family ride. The green and blue sections are easy to ride, the black sections were well beyond the comfort level of my 11 year old girl and couldn't have been done without me in front of her. I would love to come ride the black sections of this trail with the guys.
