Trail Description
Golden Spike ATV Trail is accessed on the same road that goes to Poison Spider. The turn off is tricky and the trail is not marked very well. Make sure that you have a good map if your not going with someone who knows the way.
This trail is a long bone jarring kidney bouncing ride. It will take several hours to ride from the Poison Spider parking lot to the Golden Crack and back. You could avoid an out and back ride if you have some way to leave a car in the Gemini Bridges parking lot off Hwy 191 North of Moab. The Golden Crack is an obstacle encountered that is the natural turn around point coming from either the Gemini Bridges side or the Poison Spider side.
Riders will encounter obstacles such as Skyline Drive, Golden Crack, Launch Pad, the Waterfall, the Wedgy and Double Whammy - all of these live up to their names so ride with friends and bring a rope because you are going to need it.
Riders should carry plenty of water when riding in the Moab area. Moderate morning Moab temperatures change to scorching hot Moab afternoons with unforgiving temperatures. Golden Spike is definitely a Moab ATV trail to ride.

This is a really fun trail, but not a trail to take the family on. Only the more experienced riders should attempt this trail and I've even seen a few of them roll machines. A winch and a rope will come in handy on this trail in certain areas and 4x4 is a must in my opinion. Definitely a great trail to ride for those that have the skills!
Killer ride. This one is not for the family - but if you have a group of riders that have time and want a challenge, this is a great ride.
We recently road Golden Spike and really enjoyed the trail. I agree with what's been said here that it's not a trail for the inexperienced rider. There are a few must pass obstacles that can get a little tricky. Our winch and rope came in handy on this trail.
