Trail Description
Fins & Things is truly one of the best ATV trails in the United States. The scenery is gorgeous and the riding is incredible. Many avid ATV riders vote Fins & Things their top rated trail. You quickly learn why it's named Fins & Things as the slickrock in this area looks a lot like the fins on the back of a dinosaur.
The trail is located on Sand Flats Road about two miles east of Moab, past the scenic Moab Dump, the Hell's Revenge trail head, and the Slickrock bike trail head. The road turns to dirt and the parking lot for Fins & Things is on the right hand side and is marked with signs. This is a tricky trail to follow if you don't have a leader that's familiar with the trail or a good map to point out the direction. It is helpful that they have marked the rocks on the trail with a white spray painted dinosaur every so often to help you follow the trail.
The trail is mostly riding on slickrock (sandstone) with sections of deep sand in between the rocks. There are several steep slickrock obstacles that make this a challenging trail and a few obstacles that will test the most advanced riders. Most of the really tricky obstacles have a "go around" area where those that are less daring can get around the difficult parts. There are however a few short and steep inclines and declines that don't have a go around and require the rider to engage. This is not a trail for a timid or rookie rider. It's also a good trail to carry some rope to attach to the ATV when in doubt. This is a trail that gets extremely difficult in wet conditions. Obstacles on this trail include: Frenchy's Fin and Kenny's Climb.
There are several points on the trail with scenic overlooks that are well worth the stop. Fins and Things is definitely a trail that every Utah ATV rider should experience!

I rode finns and things last year with a big group and everyone had a great time. We had one accident, but that was only because the rider was new to slickrock and decided to go up an optional obstacle that was too steep for his level. Turns out he was fine and was able to finish the trail. This trail can definitely get tricky to follow during certain parts and I'd recommend picking up a good map of the trail before heading out. I may be wrong, but I think it crosses Porcupine Rim and another trail that makes it a little confusing to follow. And at a couple points, it takes you right through campgrounds. Anyway, this is one of my favorite Moab ATV trails and is a must ride for everyone.
This is a great trail for people to get a feel for slick rock. If you rope up on the steep obstacles its a good place for beginners to get a feel for how to climb.
Plain and simple...the best ATV trail in Utah! I love Fins and Things and everything about it. Anyone that rides ATV's in Utah needs to experience this trail. And when you're done with Fins, head over to Hells Revenge or Porcupine Rim.
We rode Finns and Things again last weekend and can't get enough of this trail. It's got everything you'd expect on a top notch Moab trail. Finns is voted the favorite trail by many in our group.
