Trail Description

Behind the Rocks ATV trail is truly one of the most scenic Moab ATV trails. It follows the Behind the Rocks Wilderness Study Area (closed to motorized travel) and is said to be one of the most photographed areas in Moab. The entire trail is full of great views and Balcony Arch, Picture Frame Arch, Hunter Canyon, are among the must see areas. The trail is located about 11 miles South of Moab on Highway 191 on the right or West side of the road. It is recommended that riders take a map and a GPS of the area as Behind the Rocks has several branches and even crosses the Pritchett Canyon trail.

Behind the Rocks is a very difficult trail (rated 4+ on Moab's 4 point scale) and is even rated by many as the most difficult trail in the moab area. Riders should be prepared with the proper equipment and skills before taking on this trail. Some of the more notable obstacles on this trail include White Knuckle Hill, Hummer Hill, Roller Coaster, Upchuck, and High Dive. Many obstacles on this trail do not have "go arounds" and must either be engaged or an entirely new route must be taken.
