Atv Tires: Simple buying tips.

There are hundreds of options for ATV tires. We want to preface this blog, as always, go with what you like of course but here are some tips that we use when purchasing new tires.

1.Do I need new tires? If you just want to buy a new set of atv tires then by all means go buy some. However, like most of us you can't just toss over a few hundred dollars, so if you aren't sure keep reading. Like car tires, most atv tires offer a "wear mark". a "wear mark" tells you when the atv tires are ready to be changed. If you can't find the mark or one isn't offered then go with your gut on this one, but we would not suggest letting the atv tire become to bare, you never know when you will need that extra traction

2 Does tread pattern matter? That is a good question since the right tire makes all the difference in the terrain you ride, we have a tendency to ride pretty much everywhere, from mud, to slickrock to sand (check out the video page). However, we do still have our likes and dislikes. If you are riding mostly in sandy, muddy areas a tire with a more aggressive tread pattern is probably going to serve you best. Let us explain what we mean by aggressive tread pattern: An aggressive tread pattern displays long wide knobs that are spaced further apart. This allows the atv tire to act like a paddle by grabbing a larger area for traction. This tread also allows the atv tire to release (clean) the mud/debri from the tread easier as it spins. If you plan on hitting a less technical atv trails you may want to choose a less aggressive tire. Less aggressive atv tires would be simply be the opposite, having tread closer together and/or more frequent.

3 Durability. Some riders are really hard on atv tires and require a durable tire. Most of your stock tires aren't any more than a 4ply tire. ATR would not recommend putting anything less than a 6 ply tire. Why? Mostly because if you are going to spend the money on new tires 6ply are only a few dollars more if you look in the right places, and will last you much longer. Besides you don't want to have to carry more than is necessary on the trail as we talked about in past blogs Top 6 items.

4 Comfort. We can sit and layout the technicalities of tread and 6ply, 8ply, but we will save that for another post. As we stated in number two concerning the further the tread the more aggressive etc... you could say the same rule goes for comfort, the further the tread the more bumpy the ride, So the rule of thumb is - For most tires the more aggressive the tread the less comfortable the ride, the less aggressive the more comfortable the ride. So make your choice: For comfort or not for comfort? That is the question.

Overall buying at tires is simple, and if all else fails ask your Manufacturer/dealer what they would recommend.
